How many of you have beautiful memories in your kitchen? My mom is a cook. Being in the holy of holiest of her kitchen is a privilege for me. The family get-togethers and holidays are always centered around food. Well, for us it is. The first issue to tackle when planning a dinner is who is cooking what, and then where are we getting together.
I’ve said many times here that my mom is the best cook ever! Just like I’m sure you think that your mom is the best cook. My mom and her sisters have a unique cooking style and they each bring the best of the best to the table. That, for me, is what make my little familia special. But…………………………………………
We don’t bake.
I know.. crazy right? My daughter wants to have a baking party for her birthday. Which happens to be on Christmas. My sister wants to bake but doesn’t have the time. I bake little “0ut-of-the-box” cakes but that’s about it. My cousin has a little bit of the baking bug in her and has baked some delicious treats but to say that we know how to bake, well… not so much. I do plan on hosting a baking party for my little girl. I hope by then, we will be able to master at least some good home made cookies. I hope!
Is your family a family of bakers? Do you have a special recipe that has turned into a tradition to cook when your family visits? It doesn’t matter if you are a baker, fryer or cook-er in your family but if when you all get together and make an out of this world dish, you just might be tempted to enter the fourth annual Spreading Smucker’s Traditions Recipe and Essay Contest.
From now to November 16, 2011, Smucker’s invites consumers to visit www.smuckers.com or www.smuckersenespanol.com and share their original recipes made with at least 1/4 cup Smucker’s jams, jellies, preserves, or fruit butters, plus an original essay of 200 words or less in English or Spanish about how the recipe is part of family traditions and how it makes family celebrations special.
In March 2012, five contest finalists will be selected and flown to New York City for a live recipe demonstration and judging, where one will win $20,000 towards a dream family reunion.
Last year’s winning recipe, savory “Slow Cooker Marmalade Pork Tenderloin,” came from Tamie J. of Prosper, Texas. The recipe, which was passed down from her grandmother, features Smucker’s Sweet Orange Marmalade and has always been an Easter tradition at Tamie’s house. See how easy it is? Give it a try!
You never know…. (:
This is not a paid post. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I recieved a complimentary gift of Smucker’s Jams and Jellies.
