Traveling with kids of all ages!

Well, I did it!  I traveled alone with the kids this past week and it wasn’t all that bad.  We traveled all day Saturday across the country in 1 airplane for 7 hours. Yes, I’m still alive, oh and so are they!

We just spent one week on a Royal Caribbean cruise.  We have been anticipating this trip for a while now. The kids were excited and I will admit, so was I.  This was the first time that the kids traveled on a plane and our first cruise.  It was so cute to see them walk with their luggage and backpacks.  To experience travel through the eyes of my children was beautiful. Their readiness and wanting to do everything that they’ve seen on TV or movies was so sweet. They wanted to hold their own boarding passes. They wanted to show their own passports and buckle their seat belts.

I felt a little apprehension traveling with them alone for the first time.  It’s so different when I travel alone.  I wanted them to have a great experience and maybe spark the travel bug in their lives.

So what did I learn from my trip with the kids? Be prepared. Be early. Be patient. We got to the airport fairly early and we were able to have breakfast and grab some snacks.  The kids were mesmerized by the buzz going on around the airport. They have dropped me off at the airport many times and I have often been asked what exactly goes on in an airport.  Now, they were right smack in the middle of it all.

I also learned that traveling with kids gets you special priority when going through security and boarding the plane. Don’t be afraid to ask if you can get these perks when you have your kids with you.  These are my kids sitting down in the cockpit!  How incredibly awesome it that?

The plane ride was uneventful and the start of our week long trip was about to begin.  After all… what could go wrong when traveling in style?  Our airplane ride with Southwest was a Shamu airplane!   My kids were about to experience a trip of a life time.  Although my husband was not able to make it (due to a brand new job) my prayers of taking my family on a trip was answered.

Stay tuned as I bring you more info about our cruise with Royal Caribbean, our brush with Hurricane Sandy and all you need to know about taking a special vacation with your familia!  A special thank you to Fisher-Price and Royal Caribbean for the memories.
