If you are looking for a special Día de los Muertos event is southern California, the 4th annual Rose Hills Día de los Muertos celebration is one even that shouldn’t be missed! I grew up in a city very close to Rose Hills and while, yes Rose Hills is a cemetery, I can’t think of a better place to host such an important holiday for all local Latinos. This free family event takes place Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.at the SkyRose Chapel.
During the event, you can also see firsthand art from local artist Yolanda Gonzalez.. She has been selected to be the 2013 Rose Hills Día De Los Muertos featured artist. Her display will be located in the Rose Hills SkyRose Hills Chapel Art Gallery.
Aside from the art show, arts and crafts for the kids and yummy comida, there will be a Día de los Muertos altar contest. The altar is a respectful ritual in memory of the dead to attract the spirit of the loved one. It consists of offerings such as favorite foods on a day when their spirit returns to relive memories. If you and your family create impressive altars for your loved one, you should defintely give this a try. You never know, you just might win the grand prize of $350!!!!
