Monthly Anniversaries: Keeping my Marriage Alive!

I’ve been married for over 15 years. 15 years! Goodness, that’s a long time. I’m proud of my marriage. It’s unique, quirky and so much fun. Among other things, celebrating monthly anniversaries has always been a “thing” for us.

We don’t do date night. The kids just don’t allow it. We do day dates, whenever he has a day off and the kids are in school. We write silly love notes on a white board in the hallway and well, I won’t even go into our, ahem… text conversation. Oh, and we do monthly anniversaries

No nice flowers. No fancy dinners.  Just a healthy competition of who can say Happy Anniversary first.

Oh yes, we do.

I am the champion when it comes to winning on the 19th of every month.  I win 95% of the time.

Whenever my husband sneaks in a win, I take take it like a woman and admit my defeat. Yes, the competition is that bad. Even the kids ask us who won. My husband has even gone as far as cheating, by asking my youngest son to remind him that the 19th is coming up.

Quirky. I know.

But, I look forward to it every month.  Oh, and yes. I won today.

Happy 15th anniversary! We will celebrate 13 years in June and 15 years of dating in May 😀 Here’s to many more years of marriage 😀

Felicidades! After 14 years of marriage, that sounds like a tradition worth adopting! My question is, what challenges, if any, have presented itself by having this tradition – surely there are some months where “celebrating” or even recognizing the day might be difficult for one reason or another.

Rolondo- Sorry for the late reply. It’s really more of a fun game between us. We don’t actually go out to celebrate our monthly anniversaries, but just the fact that there more than the routine “I love you” that is said on the 19th is something special to look forward too. I can safely say that there really hasn’t been a 19th in which we don’t say it to each other. How cool is that?
