Home: A Loveable Movie for the Whole Family

I had the pleasure of sending a good Facebook buddy, and his adorable familia, to a screening of DreamWorks Animation’s HOME! Please welcome Rolondo from Redefining Dad

Home” is the quintessential Family Movie. Like other successful films in this genre, “Home” delivers witty one-liners aimed directly at adults, is action packed with amazing animation for the pre-teens and teens, and has plenty of physical comedy and easily digestible dialog for younger audiences – all with a chart topping soundtrack provided by two powerhouse musicians, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez.

Home: A Loveable Movie for the Whole Family

Our laughs began almost immediately as we were introduced to the Boov, a seemingly advanced alien race that sees humans as intellectually inferior, yet their main “advanced” technology manifests itself in the form of bubbles. Although it was clear the kids enjoyed the movie, the use of 3D and rapid and sudden movement on the screen, may prove to be a little much for some of the younger viewers. Furthermore, there are a few scenes of mild animated violence (kicking, punching, explosions) and a brief encounter with an ominous figure, that may be a little scary, although, these moments are extremely brief and are quickly transitioned to either humorous or action packed scenes.

Synopsis and Trailer:

When Oh, a lovable misfit from another planet, lands on Earth and finds himself on the run from his own people, he forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own. Through a series of comic adventures with Tip, Oh comes to understand that being different and making mistakes is all part of being human, and together they discover the true meaning of the word HOME.

But what makes “Home” stand apart from other animated features, and movies in general, is its consummate ability to take a number of distinct and complex themes (keeping to one’s word, the environment, bullying, the ability to fit in, and so on) and package it in a way that is not only hilarious but also introspective and at times, quite emotional.

Thank you Rolondo! I hope you and your familia had a wonderful time.
