Should I take my daughter to see Brave?
Last Saturday, I was able to take the kids to see the pre-screening of the new Disney Pixar movie, Brave. If there is ever a hype about a movie, this has got to be it.
I will get all the official stuff over first. Here is the synopsis and trailer. I know… I know. Like as if you haven’t seen it yet. Still… Enjoy.
“Brave” follows the heroic journey of Merida, a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin, surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her skills and resources – including her clever and mischievous triplet brothers – to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late, discovering the meaning of true bravery.
I will break it down into answers for some of your questions. The first one is one that I am getting a lot of hits on.
Should I take my daughter to see Brave? I think you should. My 5 year old daughter has been excited since the day I showed her the trailer for the first time. She sat through the whole movie. My 7 year old son went with me also. I knew my son would relate to the triplets more than Merida. My daughter is currently obsessed with Merida and want to see and hear everything about her. So please take your daughters to see the movie. I think this is the perfect mother/daughter movie that you can bond over. Really, I do. And to be honest, I think tween/teen daughter will benefit from it too!
Are there any scary scenes? No. Scary as in witchy or demonic, no. The only violent scene are some bears fighting. That’s about it.
Is it a girly movie? Will my son enjoy it? My son liked it in general. He thought it was funny and like the bear fight. He has asked all sorts of question on Archery and I’m glad that Brave has sparked that sort of interest. Archery is super cool now.
Will my daughter understand the story? Believe it or not, my daughter did. My 5 year old understood the movie completely. She understood what Merida did and the whole “fate” story. I’m actually kinda impressed with her. I hope your daughter does too!
Overall, Brave is one of my TOP favorite Disney Pixar movies. It opens tomorrow. Come back and let me know what you think!
This is not a paid post. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was invited to the pre-screening of this movie to facilitate this review.
