Hotel Transylvania, A Review…

I love that I am see many “Halloween” themed movies for kids this year.  Hotel Transylvania is one movie that all kids will enjoy.  My kids really enjoyed this film.

We saw it in 3D and in all sincerity, it should be seen that way.  The animators did a fantastic job with the scenes and your kids will get a kick out of seeing some of their favorite monsters up close.  Check out the trailer and the synopsis.

Welcome to Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free to be the monsters they are without humans to bother them. On one special weekend, Dracula has invited some of his best friends – Frankenstein and his wife, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, the Werewolf family, and more – to celebrate his beloved daughter Mavis’s 118th birthday. For Drac, catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem – but everything could change for the overprotective dad when one ordinary guy stumbles on the hotel and takes a shine to Mavis.

I love that there’s yet another “coming of age” movie.  The whole movie is based on an overbearing father and and daughter who wants to spread her wings.  The movie also reminds me of the term- it takes a village to raise a child- when all the monsters come together to celebrate the young girls “118th” birthday.  There is humor and very silly moments in the movie that had my kids smiling and laughing a lot.  Like I said, the movie is in 3D and there are some scary scenes with Dracula, who is the father.  My kids ages 5 and 7 took off the glasses after that.   The scary part is very small and was quickly compensated with a funny act.  Still, if you have not spoken to your kids about pretend monsters then you just might want to do that before you take them to the theater.

The plot with Mavis, the teen girl and the human, Jonathan is a typical teen love story romance.  There’s a lot of adventure and fun action scenes with some pretty hip music. The beautiful relationship between father and daughter is really sweet also. I’ll admit that I laughed.  It’s not a movie that I sat through just for the kids to enjoy.  Plus, I absolutely loved the cast who lent their voices.   With Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Jon Lovitz,  David Spade and many more, this truly makes one of the best movies to see this Halloween season.

This is not a paid post. All thoughts and opinions are my own  The kids and I were invited to a pre-screening of the film to facilitate this review.  All images courtesy of Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation.
