Fresh Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar and Pomegranate Sorbet
Want a dessert that will knock the socks off your guest when you have them over for dinner? My good friend Silvia from A Bucket of Flavors made an awesome recipe that will make your mouth water, just by looking at the picture! I know balsamic vinegar is mainly used on salads and dressings, but for dessert? On top of strawberries? Holland House Balsamic Vinegar, made from Holland House is the star of this recipe. This is the perfect spring dessert for a family dinner or just a night in.
Fresh Strawberries with Holland House Balsamic Vinegar & Sorbet
2 lbs Fresh Strawberries
2 oz. Balsamic Vinegar
1/4 cup Sugar
1 Whole Lemon Zest
a pinch of salt
This is a great option for those who are unable to find reduced balsamic vinegar, like myself! Start by combining the sugar, vinegar, lemon zest and salt in a saucepan.
Stir until sugar is dissolved and the mixture is brought to a rolling boil. The smell of the vinegar reducing is very potent, so I would suggest to open any windows or stand clear. If not, you’ll be crying like as if you just chopped an entire onion…NO BUENO!
Once the vinegar is reduced, which should be at a syrup consistency, or just where the vinegar mixture coats the back of a spoon, fold in the strawberries into the balsamic vinegar and plate in a serving dish.
I used pomegranate sorbet, which I topped with the strawberry vinegar mixture. You may use any flavor of sorbet of your choice or basically eat it alone because it is soooo good.
Gracias Silvia. This looks really yummy and simple to make. Those ingredients are really easy to find, too!
