Delicious Pineapple Season at Islands Restaurants

I am one of those freaks you see on memes about putting pineapple on everything. I love pineapple.  It’s one fruit that basically goes with anything and everything. One of my biggest wishes is to visit a pineapple farm. Crazy, huh?  I just think it’s the ultimate vacation destination. Can you imagine being surrounded by thousands of pineapple plants? I wonder if the smell of pineapple permeates from the plants? See, it’s these things I want to know. I love me some piña.

Did you know that peak season for pineapples is from March through July? We are in peak season and it’s the perfect spring weather to visit your local Islands Restaurants, and try out their special Pineapple Pairing Menu and we were invited to taste some of the delicious menu items.  From burgers and tacos to spirits and drinks, pineapple has taken over the tropics at Islands Restaurants.

Our local Islands is one of our go-to restaurants and we have a bit of history with this particular location. Long before we moved to the OC, my husband (who was my boyfriend at the time!), went on a lunch date at our now local Islands. We’re talking about more than 20 years ago. Now we visit with our kids and enjoy delicious meals with them as a familia. Cute, huh?

Ok, back to the food.  The new pineapple pairing menu has 4 pre-selected menu items for you to choose from:

We ordered everything off this special menu and while everything was great, we immediately had our favorites. I mean, how could we go wrong with a Piña Colada, right? It’s so delicious. Omgosh, my mouth just watered! HA! The sliders were my favorite. Actually, the teriyaki burger is what I always order when we go to Islands.  I love the tangy teriyaki sauce and of course, when you bite into the burger, you have a juicy slice of pineapple in the middle. SO GOOD!  The sliders are a smaller version of that burger.

From now through May 31, pineapple lovers will find a limited time Pineapple Pairing Menu with suggested pairings of popular pineapple dishes from the main menu. Favorites include:

  • The Hawaiian Burger, topped with fresh grilled pineapple and teriyaki sauce, paired with the Big Island Iced Tea
  • The Yaki Tacos, topped with a house-made grilled pineapple salsa, paired with a refreshing Piña Colada
  • The Hoisin Beach Bowl, made with chunks of fresh grilled pineapple and grilled vegetables, served over brown rice with mahi mahi or chicken and paired with a signature Mai Tai.

Each pairing is meant to complement and bring out the sweet and savory flavors of the fruit. See!!! Pineapple is SO good!!!!

“We use nearly 182,000 fresh pineapple per year, restaurant-wide,” said Islands’ Chief Pineapple Officer Amanda Cameron. “Pineapples are a big part of our food and tropical drink menu at Islands, and we’re excited to share our passion with all our fellow pineapple lovers.”

Kids can join in on the fun with a themed coloring contest, which will also run through the end of May. To enter, kids simply design and decorate the pineapple coloring sheets provided in the restaurant, and parents or legal guardians post the colorful creations to social media using #PineappleParadise and #IslandsBurgers for a chance to win $50 to Islands. For kids that love pineapple, Islands Gremmie Menu features a dish popular with both kids and parents, fresh pineapple spears with yogurt dip.
