The bags are packed and the car has a full tank of gas. The road trip we’ve been planning is finally here. The kids are excited and the anticipation is high. Spring break was conquered! We are fresh off the road from our road trip up north to Monterey Bay, Ca! If you followed along on Instagram, then you know the fun that was had. We were set to take off Friday morning and boy were we in for the longest ride of our lives! I’ll explain later.
We had booked our trip to Monterey earlier this year. We had a family gathering and my husband’s entire familia was going to meet there. It’s been a year since we last saw each other, and my husband’s family gifted a one-night stay at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Monterey Bay Seaside. So, we decided to make it a whole weekend of fun and booked another night.
We have never been to Monterey, Ca. Last year when we traveled, we made a pit stop at Morro Bay and of course, Pismo Beach; our favorite central coast destination, but that’s about as north we have ever gone. The year before last, when our road trip took us to the San Andrea’s Fault and Sequoia Nationa Park, we went from one side of California and crossed the whole state to our final destination, Pismo Beach. And like every trip we make, we always think to ourselves, we can’t wait to visit Monterey. Our time to visit finally came!
Have you ever wanted to book a weekend getaway to one of your dream destinations, only to find out that the hotel is under renovations?
We knew the hotel was under renovations when we first booked our trip, but we didn’t mind. After all, Embassy Suites is a beautiful chain of hotels, no matter where your destination may be. When we finally made it to the hotel, after a 7+ hour drive (more on that later!), we made our way to the temporary lobby. We were able to notice immediately that the hotel was undergoing a renovation. Still, the hotel was functioning as normal. Did you know they have a coffee bar that serves Starbucks coffee in the lobby area? This was HUGE for me. Score! Also available for guests was a cute gift shop and a business center.
There were signs everywhere about the construction, but that didn’t matter. Why? Well, we were there to see family and check out Monterey Bay. There’s so much to do there. I mean, you’re right next to the Pacific ocean and historical landmarks are a short drive away. So, the hotel was there for a great nights rest.
Embassy Suites VIP Suites
We were treated to one of the hotel’s completed VIP rooms. As you may know, Embassy Suites offers 2 room suites that are amazing. With the renovations, that are set to be completed at the end of summer, the rooms are getting a gorgeous upgrade that includes coastal colors (pretty blues!) and locally inspired art.
The room was spacious and the modern feel gave way to the perfect family room suite.
Wow, so pretty. It was the first thing I noticed. I love, love, love the modern chic vibe of the room! The living area has a fold-out sofa, a comfortable chair, and a dining area! How convenient is that? Next, is a small kitchenette and the ultra sleek bathroom. The actual bedroom had 2 beds and ocean view. The room felt spacious, even with 5 of us in there.I Trust me, we had people everywhere! My teen was stretched out on the couch, on his phone, the tweens were checking out the goodies left by the hotel, my husband was taking a rest on the bed, while I put our clothes in the closet and HUGE dresser drawers.
That night, we made our way to our first family get-together at the local open air mall. Oh, but I was anticipating breakfast. I seriously could not wait for morning to come. Come back for part two of our road trip. Can you say zoom-zoom and the wonders of the sea?
